Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using notmystuff.co. By accessing the platform, you agree to be bound by them.
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using notmystuff.co (the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Platform. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and notmystuff.co. Your continued use of the Platform after any update to these Terms constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Service description
notmystuff.co is an anonymous digital lost-and-found platform. It enables people who have found an item to post a listing, and enables people who have lost an item to identify and claim it through an ownership verification mechanism. The Platform facilitates contact between finders and owners but does not take physical possession of any items, does not guarantee that lost items will be found or returned, and is not a party to any arrangement between users. We provide the Platform on an "as is" basis.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Platform. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years old and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are between 13 and 18 years old, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. We reserve the right to suspend accounts where we have reason to believe the user does not meet the age requirement.
4. User accounts
Accounts are created exclusively through Google OAuth, managed by Supabase Auth. You are permitted one account per person. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension or to gain unfair advantage is prohibited. On first login, you are assigned a randomly generated anonymous identifier (e.g. #GrayCoyote). You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account, as it controls access to your Platform account. You must notify us at legal@notmystuff.co immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
5. Listing rules
You may post listings only for items you have genuinely found or genuinely lost. The following are prohibited in all listings: (a) commercial advertisements or promotions of any kind; (b) offensive, discriminatory, or harassing content; (c) content that includes personal data of any individual (phone numbers, addresses, photos of people, ID documents); (d) deceptive or misleading descriptions intended to claim an item you did not lose; (e) duplicate listings for the same item; (f) listings for illegal items or stolen goods (see §8). We may remove any listing that violates these rules without prior notice.
6. Security question integrity
The ownership verification mechanism — a secret question set by the finder, answered by the claimant — is the core trust layer of the Platform. You must not attempt to circumvent it. Prohibited conduct includes: (a) guessing answers repeatedly ("brute-forcing") — automated or manual; (b) sharing or publishing security questions and answers in public forums; (c) creating listings with trivially guessable questions intended to fraudulently claim items. The Platform monitors for repeated failed verification attempts. Accounts found to be abusing the verification mechanism will be suspended immediately and may be permanently banned.
7. Anonymous communication
All communication between users occurs through the Platform's anonymous messaging system. You must not: (a) share your own or another person's real name, email address, phone number, social media handle, or any other identifying information in messages or listing descriptions; (b) harass, threaten, insult, or intimidate other users; (c) send unsolicited commercial messages or solicit payment outside of an agreed item return; (d) attempt to identify the real person behind another user's anonymous identifier. The anonymity of all users must be preserved at all times. Violations will result in message deletion and account suspension.
8. Prohibited content and items
The following content and items are strictly prohibited on the Platform: (a) stolen goods — listing an item you know to be stolen, or claiming an item through false verification, constitutes fraud; (b) illegal items — weapons, controlled substances, counterfeit goods, or any item whose possession or transfer is prohibited under applicable law; (c) deceptive listings — listings created with the intent to deceive, scam, or defraud other users; (d) spam — mass-posting duplicate or near-duplicate listings; (e) content that violates the intellectual property rights of third parties. We cooperate with law enforcement where required. Prohibited listings will be removed and the account suspended or permanently banned.
9. User-generated content
You retain all intellectual property rights to the content you post (descriptions, photos). By posting content on the Platform, you grant notmystuff.co a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, display, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of operating the Platform. This licence terminates when the content is deleted (see §5 on retention). We do not claim ownership of your content. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms, without prior notice and without liability to you.
10. Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or permanently terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent conduct, or abuse the Platform in a way that harms other users or the integrity of the service. In cases of clear violation (harassment, fraud, illegal items), suspension may be immediate without prior warning. For less severe or first-time violations, we will attempt to notify you by email before taking action. You may terminate your account at any time via Settings → Delete account.
11. GDPR and right to erasure
You have the right to delete your account and all associated data at any time. To exercise this right, go to Settings → Delete account. All your data — listings, messages, security question hashes, and your email address — will be permanently erased within 24 hours. We will confirm deletion by email. We will process all GDPR requests within 30 days.
12. Liability limitation
notmystuff.co is a facilitator only. We are not responsible for: (a) whether a lost item is actually recovered; (b) the conduct of users in exchanging or returning items; (c) any damage, loss, or harm arising from an in-person meeting between users; (d) the accuracy of listing descriptions provided by users; (e) any financial transaction that may occur between users outside the Platform. The Platform is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms is limited to PLN 100.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We make no warranty regarding the reliability of the ownership verification mechanism as proof of legal ownership — it is a practical tool, not a legal document. Users are advised to exercise their own judgement when arranging the return of found items.
14. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms at any time. We will post the revised Terms on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Platform and may delete your account.
15. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Poland, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms that cannot be resolved amicably shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Warsaw, Poland. If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
